GILLIAM, LA-The last several races on the 2000 IHRA Summit Drag Racing Series schedule has been less than fortunate for Pro Modified driver, Steve Cossis. The New York-native failed to qualify for his second national event in a row at the 3rd annual IHRA Mopar Parts World Finals at Red River Raceway near Shreveport, La.
Cossis made his best run of the weekend during the second qualifying session on Friday. He guided the CompetitionPlus.com-sponsored '53 Corvette to a 6.732 at 171.10 mph, slowing at the top end of the track. Cossis finished the round temporarily qualified 14th, but was bumped from the show during the final qualifying session Friday evening. His 6.73 wound up 23rd best out of the 28 cars attempting to make the Mopar Pro Modified field.
Cossis and his black Corvette entered the race 14th in the IHRA Mopar Pro Modified point's chase. The DNQ at the World Finals dropped him one notch to 15th. Cossis will now return to his Astoria, New York home and prepare for the IHRA season-finale at Rockingham in three weeks.
