Montecalvo Finishes 1999 Season As A Semi-finalist At Mopar Parts World Finals

SHREVEPORT, LA-- John Montecalvo had several goals entering the 1999 season. he wanted to be the quickest Chevrolet in competition and he wanted to be a serious contender for national event wins. He succeeded on all counts. The veteran Pro Stock driver from Center Moriches, NY., ended his season on a positive note by finishing as a semi-finalist at the Mopar Parts World Finals in Shreveport, La.

Montecalvo was pleased with the outcome of the 1999 season.

"We had some tough times and we also had some great times," explained Montecalvo, who scored his first national event at the North American Nationals. "I have to thank Citgo for sponsoring us and my hardworking crew of Billy Wagner and Pete Jepson. Special thanks goes to my family and friends, who all serves as my strength and inspiration."

Montecalvo was the fifth quickest qualifier and waded through a stout field of Pro Stockers. He stopped Floyd Cheek and fellow Chevrolet racer Steve Spiess before dropping a tough one to eventual winner John Yoak. He was forced to lift on the race when the car drifted out of the groove.
