TUSCALOOSA, AL - Just when it was presumed to be safe in the Pro Modified jungle, defending World Champion Shannon Jenkins steps forward with a reptile that will be poisonous to the competition. The veteran nitrous wizard from Tuscaloosa, Al., released to the media his intentions of driving for the upcoming season. Jenkins will be part of a formidable two-car team with Billy Harper, which will do battle with a pair of fine-tuned Dodge Viper Pro Modifieds.

"I knew that I needed to stay in the driver's seat.," explained Jenkins. "I had to go ahead and announce it to keep the blower guys in check. I have every intention of coming out there and making it hard for anyone to take this title. We are looking forward to making this our most dominant season ever."

Jenkins was approached after his departure from the Parsons Brothers team by Harper, who is one of the two-time Pro Modified champion's engine lease customers. Initially, Jenkins wasn't going to do it. However, the thought of driving a Jerry Haas-prepared, Viper with motivation from a 706-inch, nitrous-injected motor was enough to change his mode of thinking.

Harper, who lives in Paducah, Ky., and will drive the other Viper within the two-car operation is real excited about the venture.

The cars are scheduled to be ready for the IHRA Prolong Winter nationals in Darlington, S.C., in early March. Jenkins adds that there's an outside chance of the cars being ready for the CompetitionPlus.Com Groundhog Warm-up presented by Majesty Homes in Darlington, SC during the weekend of February 18 - 20.
