ASHEVILLE, NC-- A teary-eyed Scotty Cannon accepted the final award bestowed upon him as an IHRA racer, as the readers of Drag Review magazine voted him as their overwhelming choice for IHRA Professional Racer Of The Year. Earlier in the evening, the popular Pro Modified racer from Lyman, S.C. had been awarded an unprecedented, sixth world championship. While the controversial driver has been known for colorful championship acceptance speeches in the past, he was somewhat reserved in his presentation last evening.

He said, "As you guys know, I will be leaving to run a nitro, funny car. I've grown up racing IHRA and this is my home. I may be going NHRA racing, but you guys are my family. It's as if I am leaving home. I know there are the thoughts, that over there the people look at us as hicks or something like that."

Cannon, whose voice was clearly breaking up from emotion, uttered, "I just gotta know that when I strap in and go to race that you guys are behind me and I am going to miss you so much. More than you will ever know."

As he was awarded the the professional racer of the year award, Cannon walked to the podium and could not even speak. The IHRA's winningest, most colorful and unreserved speaker was visibly shaken. The IHRA's winningest, most colorful and unreserved speaker was visibly shaken. He was only able to utter a, "Thank You."
