ROCKINGHAM, NC - IHRA.com Pro Funny Car driver Scott Weney followed his runner-up finish at the season-opener at Darlington with a win at the Holley Spring Nationals at Rockingham Dragway.

He came from the number eight qualifying spot to defeat defending IHRA World Champion Von Smith. Weney took the win on the strength of a better reaction time, using a .455 to .500 starting line advantage and running a 5.958/237.75 to Smith's quicker but later 5.935/238.05.

The win was the seventh in the Royersford, PA racer's career, and one of the most satisfying. "We're real happy with the win," confirmed Weney. "The weather and track conditions really varied this weekend, but we were able to stay one step ahead with our set-up. We really enjoy putting on a show for the fans, and this was a great opportunity to do that, take the win, and the points lead all at the same time."

Weney realizes the value of bringing some of the excitement and showmanship from the "golden years" to today's racing environment, but he stresses the fact that "a driver has to know his limitations, and must know when to lift before things get out of hand."

Next stop for the Sheetz Electric team will be the Mopar Parts Canadian Nationals presented by Castrol, June2-4 at Grand Bend Motorplex in Grand Bend Ontario, Canada.
