ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - 8 a.m. - The Tenth annual Bethesda Softworks World Finals is off to a soggy start after Tropical Storm Tammy visited Rockingham Dragway on Thursday.

Breaking a regional drought of several weeks' duration, tropical rainfall started late Wednesday night and continued all day Thursday, so heavy at times that visibility was less than 1/8-mile.

Despite the heavy rainfall, most of the Rockingham Dragway pit areas remained firm enough to park all the arriving racers, but the rain, now down to a steady, light drizzle, continues and forecasts call for rain all day Friday. However, Tammy is gone, so there could be breaks in the rain long enough to dry the track and get things going.

Because of the heavy rain, there are several flooded areas, at the track and in nearby cities, but those are slowly draining and if the rain stops, race officials are ready to dry the track and go racing.

Weather forecasts call for the rain to stop some time Saturday. If Mother Nature is kind enough to give the racers and fans a break by mid-day tomorrow, it could be one-shot qualifying and long hours to run the race to completion, if necessary. If not, well, we won't know until around noon Saturday.
