NORWALK, OH - The natives are getting restless and they mean serious business for Larry Snyder's Spitzer Super Eliminator team. In the points lead with only four races on the season, Snyder is being chased relentlessly by the competition. The performance of the driver and car was outstanding for the weekend, setting the tone for the field.
Snyder dominated qualifying at Norwalk Raceway Park until the last qualifying rounds were run. Neal Parker's 6.202/223.69 outdid Snyder's standing time of 6.226/213.94, which came in the first round of qualifying on Friday.
In two more rounds of qualifying, none could top this time. Snyder was lucky. The second qualifying round produced a 6.363/211.56, followed in the third qualifying round with a 6.283/212.03. It was at that time Parker bumped him back to number two, and posted him on the ladder against Ed Lyons in the first round of eliminations on Sunday.
The tree activated and both drivers had almost identical reaction times. Snyder with the advantage and the horsepower, tracked a 6.240/215.68 for the first win. He then took a starting line advantage against Mark McElwee. This time the margin of victory was large and Snyder took a win on a 6.170/218.34 run. But Snyder's luck would end there.
When he met Laurie Cannister in the semi-final round, Snyder gave the advantage to the lady driver and she ran away with the win. Snyder's best efforts to outrun Cannister were evident in his quicker e.t. 6.151, and faster 219.69 mph to her 6.168/216.58.
Snyder and the Spitzer Super Eliminator team will pursue their points lead next at the IHRA PARTS PRO North American Nationals in Epping, NH., Sept 10-12. Snyder, along with each Super Eliminator contestant, will be afforded two qualifying runs on Friday, another two on Saturday, and final eliminations will begin Sunday.
This event will be televised on ESPN2 with the dates TBA in an upcoming issue of the IHRA's Drag Review Magazine.
