</pre> NORWALK, OHIO. - Charlie Hunt's two car Pro Stock operation ended the latest IHRA event with a quarter-final finish serving as their best between drivers Floyd Cheek and Gene Wilson. Wilson carried the Team Hunt flag into the quarter-finals before losing to eventual winner John Montecalvo.

The event started out on a remarkable note as both cars tied in the first session of qualifying with a 6.798, but it was Cheek's 205.10 mile per hour blast that put him above Wilson.

Wilson stepped up in a big way during the final session, as his 6.770/206.76 was just a precursor for his 6.720/207.94 that vaulted him into the top half of the field. The Canton, GA.-based driver ended up in the fifth position.

Cheek's team had experimented with some different combinations in the transmission of his Ford Probe. The two-time IHRA Pro Stock champion from Soddy Daisey, TN., received the improvement that his team had sought as he covered the quarter-mile with a 6.753/206.80. He ended qualifying as the ninth quickest qualifier and had to face points leader Ron Miller in the first round.

It all ended abruptly for Cheek as he broke off of the line and slowed to a 14.108 for the loss.

Wilson had a better set of circumstances as he took out John Konigshofer in the opening round. He ended the respectable day of competition by losing on both ends of the track to Montecalvo.
