Biondo Dominates Computech/Bill Mitchell Shootout Series at MIR
Peter Biondo of Valley Stream, N.Y., dominated the three-weekend, nine-race Computech/Bill Mitchell Hard Core Performance Parts Shootout ET Bracket racing series at Maryland International Raceway, winning three of the nine individual races, and finishing second at one other. Biondo won the last three consecutive races of the series on July 21, October 18, and October 19 to surge ahead to the series points lead; he recorded a runner-up finish on June 15. Biondo won $17,000 for his weekend's work on October 18 and 19, and he won $10,000 for the win on July 21. Biondo drove his 1995 Scott Weney-built dragster to the final two wins and the June runner-up finish; he drove the Northrop family's ISC Racer's Tape Chevrolet Vega to the win in July.
The Computech/Bill Mitchell Shootout series drew 317 different racers over the three weekends and paid nearly $120,000 in prizes and contingencies. Computech Systems, Inc., of Hughesville, Md., manufactures drag race system computers, weather stations, and computerized data logging systems. Bill Mitchell Hard Core Racing Products of Ronkonkoma, N.Y., manufactures a variety of racing products, including carburetors and throttle controls.
