LEICESTER, N.Y. - Just to think, they all counted him out. Maybe not, but Pro Modified's "Iceman" Shannon Jenkins returned to his natural habitat of winning national event titles by stopping Quain Stott in the final round at the IHRA CARQUEST Empire Nationals in Leicester, N.Y.

Jenkins has fought every gremlin known to man in the last two seasons up until the point. On this day, the two-time World Champion from Tuscaloosa, Ala. This marks his first win since 1999.

"I think most everyone knew that we were struggling," explained Jenkins. "Thanks to Mike Castellana for being patient with me. I had hoped that this day would come for a long time. I think we have everything straightened out and I'd like to thank Tommy Mauney for that. I think people will always consider us to be a threat to win."

Jenkins entered eliminations as the sixth quickest qualifier.

Jenkins, who joined Mike Castellana's Awesome Motorsports late last season, opened his march to the final round by knocking off Mike Lockwood. He then scored another decisive victory as he beat Tim McAmis on a holeshot, 6.312 to 6.277. The semis didn't get any easier as he needed a 6.326 to get by Ed Hoover.

In the finals, Jenkins outreacted the defending champion Stott and beat him to the finish line with a 6.293, 223.39.
