LAS VEGAS - John Irving piloted his "Nevada Pickle" to first place last = night in The Strip's newest division, Street Muscle Eliminator, while = Josh Hill seized his first Import Eliminator victory.

Irving, who normally competes in a Chevrolet C5 Corvette he calls the = "Nevada Missile", debuted his other racing machine last night in the = Street Muscle Eliminator division. Rather than racing the "Nevada = Missile", Irving unveiled the "Nevada Pickle" - a dark green 2000 Dodge = pickup. A healthy handicap and a final-round reaction time of .564-sec. = propelled the Nevada Pickle to the finish line first, edging out Ed = Meinel, of Reston, Va., in his 1999 Mustang GT.=20

Hill, 21, a three-year resident of Las Vegas, drove his 1995 Honda Civic = to 87.72 mph, denying John Pili of first place. Pili, driving a 1992 = Honda Civic, topped out at 84.88 mph.

"I'm always making adjustments to my car and buying things for it," said = Hill. "I had to know what it would do down the quarter mile. I didn't = know we got these cool trophies, I'm going to have to start coming here = more often!"

Drag racing continues this weekend at The Strip with an open Test 'n' = Tune and High School eliminations on Friday night. Gates open at 6 p.m. = The eighth points race of the season for the National Performance Center = E.T. Bracket Racing Series and the Jerry's Nugget Casino Reaction-Time = Bonus Award are scheduled for Saturday night. Gates open at 4 p.m.
