Montecalvo Scores First Career Victory At Parts Pro North American Nationals!
EPPING, NH.-- John Montecalvo learned a valuable lesson at the Parts Pro North American Nationals in Epping, N.H. The veteran asphalt company owner from Center Moriches, N.Y., found out that no matter how much bad luck has been in your past, when it is your time to win -- it is, indeed, your time to win. Such was the case as he piloted his Citgo-sponsored, Chevrolet to victory over Ron Miller. It marked the first win for a Chevy since last season.
"I cannot even begin to tell anyone how I feel," explained Montecalvo. "This is the greatest feeling in the world. Billy Wagner gave me a good car and I did what I had to as a driver and it came together perfectly."
Montecalvo established himself as the quickest Pro Stocker in the first session as he stormed to a 6.714/207.50. He carried top qualifier status into the final session. Montecalvo afforded the competition no slack as he came out with a 6.642/209.04 which only solidified his perch.
Because of an uneven amount of cars in the first round, Montecalvo received a bye run. The Billy Wagner-wrenched, Monte Carlo ran as if it were engaged in a neck-and-neck battle stopping the clocks with a 6.663//209.33.
He met Floyd Cheek in the quarter-finals. The entire season, Montecalvo had not fared well against the former champion. However, today he was not to be denied. He not only topped Cheek in the quarters, but he also sent Jeremy Bevins to the showers in the semis.
Montecalvo was a terror on the starting line for Miller as he posted a .423 light, and when coupled with a 6.691/208.52 was more than Miller could handle with a 6.708/208.81.
The next event for the Citgo team will be the IHRA CARQUEST Autumn Nationals in Rockingham, NC., on September 24-26. Montecalvo, along with the rest of the Pro Stock contingent, will take assault on the Rockingham International Dragway racing surface for the ninth professional race on the IHRA/Snap-On Tools Championship Series. Each contestant will be afforded two qualifying attempts on Friday and another two on Saturday. Final eliminations are slated to begin on Sunday.
