Mancuso Headed To Rockingham With Bike Problems Sorted Out
ROCKINGHAM, NC-- A positive test session at Houston Raceway Park prior to the IHRA Holley Spring Nationals in Rockingham, N.C., has defending IHRA Top Fuel Harley champion John Mancuso feeling better after a Bradenton DNQ. He carded a handful of 205.80 blasts and concluded with a 6.702/206.56 best.
In other related Mancuso news, the Houston, Tx.,-based dealer along with his dealership and SIRE (Self Improvement Through Riding Education) held its third annual, “Horses and Harleys” benefit while in Bradenton, Fl. SIRE is a non-profit organization that uses therapeutic horseback riding for handicapped children. There was a barbecue, music, plenty of liquid refreshment and both live and silent auctions. There was also a drawing for a 1999 Harley Dyna Low rider furnished by Mancuso Harley-Davidson.
One of the live auction items was an "Ultimate Pit Pass" donated by Mancuso Racing. This included two pit entrance tickets to the May 22-23 ADBA ( American Drag Bike Association ) race at Houston Raceway Park in Baytown. Uniform shirts and hats, starting line passes and a motorhome to use at the track will be provided. A steak dinner on Saturday night will be prepared for the lucky bidder by Mancuso. It also affords the opportunity to hang out with the current World Champion and his crew and to meet the other racers during the usual evening bench racing sessions.
The lucky auction purchaser paid nineteen hundred dollars ( $1900.00 ) for the Pit Pass, which incidentally was the highest price paid for any item. Mancuso feels that this could be a way for other racers to raise money for their favorite charities as well as get additional press.
Mancuso plans to run a 19-race schedule for 1999 and likewise plans to defend championships earned under both the IHRA/Screamin’ Eagle Banner and ADBA sanction. He continues his 1999 IHRA/Screamin’ Eagle title defense at the IHRA Holley Spring Nationals Nationals in Rockingham, N.C., this weekend. Each contestant will be afforded three qualifying runs during the course of the event and the quickest eight bikes will compete in final eliminations on Sunday. This event will be televised on ESPN2 with the dates TBA in an upcoming issue of the IHRA’s Drag Review magazine.
