John Long Withdraws From Competition With Engine Damage

EPPING, NH.--- In drag racing, it is very much possible to win the the battle, but lose the war. Super Eliminator competitor John Long found that out the hard way. The Indianapolis, Ind.,-based, printer made the program only to withdraw from competition after suffering irrepairable engine damage while driving Greg Good's Anthony Crane Rental-backed, dragster at the IHRA Parts Pro North American Nationals in Epping, NH.

"We hate that this happened," explained Long. "We were going for that five-second zone and we hurt the engine pretty bad. We feel it is in our best interests just to call it a day and come back ready to race in Rockingham."

Long broke on his first run and coasted to a 9.85/84.21 in the rain-shortened qualifying. There were only 14 entries present and he settled into the 12th spot.

Long and his Spectra One Motorsports Printing Team plans to resume their championship conquest at the IHRA CARQUEST Autumn Nationals in Rockingham, NC, September 24-26. Long, along with each Super Eliminator contestant, will be afforded four qualifying runs during the course of the event and the quickest sixteen entries will compete in final eliminations on Sunday. This event will be televised on ESPN2 with the dates TBA in an upcoming issue of Drag Review.
