Jamie Emery Eager To Gain Another Shot At IHRA/Screamin' Eagle Top Fuel Harley Crown At Prolong Winter Nationals
DARLINGTON, SC-- Jamie Emery readily admits that he was in the right place at the right time at last year's IHRA Prolong Winter Nationals, hosted by Desoto Memorial Speedway in Bradenton, Fl. The 24-year old, Top Fuel Harley rider from Colton's Point, Md., was given two lucky breaks when his first two eliminations opponents encountered breakage, virtually enabling him to reach the finals uncontested. While some might frown and downplay his achievement, he admits that, "I'll take them anyway I can get them."
"That's a part of racing that anyone will take," confides Emery. "Naturally, we all like to race for our wins. But if I take a single, it won't hurt my feelings in the least. I don't think anyone would feel bad, either. A win is a win. This year I hope to outrun some of the heavy-hitters and that is the way I really want to reach the finals."
Emery was on the receiving end of the misfortune last month during the Majesty Homes Groundhog Warm-up in Darlington, S.C., where he broke a transmission prior to racing against Steve Moore in the finals of the Top Fuel Harley division. Emery was the first of the nitro-burning, Harleys to successfully navigate the sometimes tricky, but excellent, racing surface of Darlington International Dragway. He recorded a 7.323/186.02 to take the early lead in testing for his division. This provides a great motivational push leading into the Prolong Winter Nationals, the site of the aforementioned runner-up finish during the 1998 season.
The G&H Jewelers/Jam-On Productions-sponsored, Emery team plans to open their championship conquest at the IHRA Prolong Winter Nationals in Darlington, S.C., March 12-14. Emery, along with each IHRA/Screamin' Eagle Top Fuel Harley contestant, will be afforded three qualifying runs during the course of the event and the quickest eight entries will compete in final eliminations on Sunday. This event will be televised on ESPN2 with the dates TBA in an upcoming issue of the IHRA's Drag Review magazine
