Irwindale Dragstrip Adds Twenty-Nine Thursday Nights Of Street Legal Events
Fox Sports AM1150 Dave & Arnie To Broadcast Their Show Live On Thursday Nights From 'Strip
Irwindale, Calif. - - (March 14, 2002) Something that everyone has been asking for, NHRA Street Legal Racing at Irwindale every Thursday night, will become a reality on March 14 when Irwindale Dragstrip begins regular Thursday Night speed sessions on its very popular 1/8 NHRA Drag Strip.
Adding to the every Thursday excitement is the announcement that AM1150's Dave & Arnie will originate their popular "DNA" sports talk show right from the Irwindale Dragstrip Tower every Thursday night from 5 to 7pm. The II50AM duo will be trackside at Irwindale not only capturing all the on-track action but talking about the upcoming Saturday night's event at the Speedway. "We might even let them talk about baseball. football, or ice hockey ... But we're going to make sure that they're going to see a bunch auto racing people when they're at Irwindale." said track VP Bob DeFazio.
"We plan to have a number of drivers from both the Dragstrip and the Speedway visiting the booth and talking to Dave and Arnie about racing at Irwindale," said DeFazio in his announcement of the unique deal. "AM1150 gets a great action-packed venue for its Thursday night show, and we get a live link with sports fans on one of the area's top AM radio stations. Its Win-Win all the way."
Adding more Thursday nights to the Dragstrip program was a natural with car counts averaging 80 to 100 every first and third Thursday, racers and fans just wanted more of the same. The Thursday night sessions have become a mellow combination of testing and tuning with no racing points to scramble after, but with plenty of hot and heavy "grudge"-type racing, burn-out contests, NHRA Junior Dragsters working out, and even heads-up racing for those who are so inclined.
Thursday nights at Irwindale have shown all the makings of becoming THE place to see and be seen for people who love cars and car people, now, with "Its own radio show" and every Thursday accessibility -- well, suffice it to say, the fair and friendly City of Irwindale is well on its way back as a Drag Racing icon.
