GRAND BEND, ONTARIO, CANADA (June 1, 2000) -- The CARQUEST Auto Parts Drag Racing Teams move north of the border this weekend to compete in the Inaugural Mopar Canadian Nationals at the Grand Bend Motorplex in Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada.

It has been nearly two months since the last IHRA national event. Entering this weekends action, the CARQUEST Auto Parts / Prolong / CARQUEST Filters / Duragloss Top Fuel Dragster team with two-time champion Paul Romine, Indianapolis, is solidly in second place with a win already this season at the season opening event.

"Winning the Prolong Winter Nationals in Darlington was huge for us," Romine said. "We needed that momentum and the semifinal finish at the Spring Nationals in April to solidify our position in the points standings. There are eight events to go and I want to be the chased and not the chaser."

Prior to the Canadian Nationals, Paul Romine and CARQUEST Pro Outlaw driver Scott Ray will appear at CARQUEST Auto Parts stores in southern Ontario. Scott Ray will appear at the CARQUEST store in Watford, Ontario, Thursday, June 1st from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. then 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Petrolia, Ontario store, where he will be joined by Ontario Special Olympic athletes. Paul Romine will appear at the London, Ontario East store Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Molar Canadian Nationals begin Friday, June 2nd. Gates open Friday and Saturday at 8 a.m. and Sunday at 7:30 a.m. Pro qualifying begins Friday at 1 p.m. and continues Saturday at noon and 7 p.m. Final eliminations are set for Sunday at 11 a.m.

Tickets for the three-day event are $30 Canadian Friday and $45 on Saturday and Sunday. A three-day "Superpass" is available for $95. Children’s admission (6-12) is only $5 daily. Children under six are free. All tickets include free parking and pit pass.

A one-hour highlight show of the Mopar Canadian Nationals will air on TNN August 20th at 10:30 p.m. (ET).
