LAS VEGAS -- The Farnum family has been a mainstay in Las Vegas drag racing for many years. Saturday night at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Bob Farnum and daughter-in-law Lynn Farnum almost pulled off the perfect sweep in the eighth round of the Summit Racing E.T. Bracket Series Presented by National Performance Center.
Bob Farnum, piloting his '96 Yancer Dragster, posted an 8.208 E.T. to defeat Las Vegas' Roger Hall in the Super Quick Division. Farnum's E.T. was just a couple of ticks off of his dialed-in time of 8.18. Hall posted an E.T. of 9.952, which was a little slower than his 9.78 dial-in.
Lynn wasn't as fortunate in the final round of the Street Division. Las Vegas' Paul Wong posted a low E.T. of 14.610 in his 1965 Plymouth to defeat Farnum's 1993 Trans Am.
In the Sportsman Division, Dwight Machael of Las Vegas posted a low E.T. of 13.051 seconds on a 12.99 dial-in time to defeat Kingman, Ariz.'s Pat Cook, who broke out of her dialed in time of 12.22 with a 12.214-second run.
North Las Vegas' Tim Arden benefitted from a red light start by Las Vegas' Jerry Mock to win the Pro Division in his 1967 Camaro. Arden posted an E.T. of 12.998 to notch the victory.
In motorcycles, Gary Oaks of Las Vegas' low E.T. of 10.103 was good enough for the win over Leo Shaver in the final round of eliminations. Oaks' time was slightly slower than his 10.06 dialed-in time, while Shaver ran 10.363, which was considerably slower than his 10.22 dialed-in time.
Saturday's event also included the Buick Grand Nationals, which did not compete for positions.
Racing will return to The Strip next Saturday with a non-points event for the E.T. Bracket Series.
