King upset in the first round after outstanding qualifying effort at Epping

EPPING, NH - Mopar Pro Modified driver, Chip King, enjoyed one of his best qualifying efforts of the season, only to be upset during the first round of eliminations at the IHRA Amalie Oil North American Nationals at New England Dragway.

King opened qualifying in his Indy Cylinder Heads-sponsored Dodge Avenger R/T with a strong 6.30 at 225 mph to jump into the No. 3 position. The Semora, NC, resident pushed his supercharged Hemi powerplant to an excellent 6.24 at 226 mph during Friday's evening session to finish the first day of qualifying in the No. 4 spot. King was unable to improve on his stellar 6.24 during Saturday's final pair of qualifying rounds and remained in the No. 4 position on the Mopar Pro Modified ladder.

King faced the '68 Camaro of Steve Vick during the first round of eliminations on Sunday, with King enjoying lane choice. Vick left the line first on King and never looked back as his 6.39 at 221 mph held off King's 6.45 at 220 mph. After qualifying so well it was a disappointing loss for the driver of the beautiful silver Avenger.

The team will now head to Rockingham, NC, for the IHRA CARQUEST Autumn Nationals, September 21-23. If you would like to find out more about Chip King and all of the superstars of the IHRA, please visit your No. 1 source for drag racing news, CompetitionPlus.com.
