DARLINGTON, SC - The Pontiac fans were plenty proud of their flagship. Dwayne Rice, who proudly boasts having the quickest Pontiac in Pro Stock, put forth a valiant effort at the IHRA Prolong Winter Nationals in Darlington, SC. The Grove City, Ohio-based excavator lost on a holeshot to Gene Wilson. Rice was very much impressive in qualifying when his machine ended up the second quickest qualifier at the end of qualifying. He ran his finest qualifying lap during the Saturday early session.

The former Modified eliminator racer opened eliminations by taking out the Pro Stock heavy-hitter Floyd Cheek. Cheek was quicker out of the gate, but Rice was able to pass him on the top end for the win with a 6.710/206.92.

As fate would have it, Rice was paired against the second car on the Charlie Hunt team. Gene Wilson avenged Cheek's loss by winning with a slower 6.738/207.34. Rice settled for quarter-finalist status with a quicker 6.715/207.24.

The next event on the IHRA/Summit schedule will be on April 7-9, at Rockingham Dragway for the Holley Spring Nationals.
