Millican/Team Werner to Begin Quest for Fifth Consecutive Championship at IHRA Texas Nationals
Chicago - March 29, 2005 Clay Millican of Team Werner/Lehman Racing will begin his quest for a fifth consecutive IHRA Top Fuel Championship at the 2005 IHRA Texas Nationals at San Antonio Raceway on April 1-2.
"Going into this race, I am feeling good because the car has been running well so far in 2005," said Millican. "The Werner team is ready to go for our 'drive for five' and hopefully keep our winning streak alive in San Antonio!"
Clay in the dragster Millican has a history of success at the Texas Nationals, as he has won it every year since the race's inaugural event in 2003. Additionally, he holds the San Antonio Raceway track record for both elapsed time (4.583 seconds) and speed (320.36 mph), which he achieved in 2004.
This marks the fifth year that Werner Enterprises has served as the primary sponsor of Lehman Racing in the IHRA. Werner, headquartered in Omaha, Neb., is one of the nation's top five truckload carriers and has more than 8,000 trucks and 22,000 trailers on the road. Werner is widely recognized as a leader in technological advancements in the field of trucking.
Lehman Racing and Clay Millican have re-written the IHRA record book since their entry into the league in 2000. With Werner, they have won the IHRA Top Fuel Championship every year since 2001 and never finished a full season lower than second place in the points standings. The team's four consecutive championships are a feat unmatched by any other Top Fuel team. Millican is also the winningest professional driver in the league's history, with 37 career wins under his belt in just six seasons on the IHRA circuit.
In addition to their IHRA schedule, the Lehman Racing team has competed in two NHRA national events this season and plans to race in at least four more. They recently advanced to the semi-final round of eliminations at the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla. The team hopes to carry this momentum to the IHRA season-opener in San Antonio.
