Millican Hopes to Maintain Top Fuel Points Lead at IHRA Spring Nationals
Four-time IHRA Champion to go for 8th consecutive win at "The Rock"
Chicago - April 18, 2005 Clay Millican of Team Werner/Lehman Racing, the four-time IHRA Top Fuel Champion and winningest professional driver in the league's history, will look to maintain his lead in the IHRA Top Fuel points standings with a victory at the 2005 IHRA Spring Nationals at Rockingham Dragway in Rockingham, N.C., on April 22-24.
If Millican wins, it will be his eighth consecutive victory at Rockingham Dragway, a feat unmatched by any other driver. He became the first driver to ever win seven consecutive races at a racetrack in 2004 when he won the IHRA World Finals at "The Rock".
Clay waves to crowd in San Antonio "I can't wait to race in Rockingham," said Millican. "If we could get eight wins in a row here it would be just awesome. We're going to face some tough competition though so it definitely will not be easy."
In the first race of the season, the IHRA Texas Nationals in San Antonio, Texas, Millican and Team Werner/Lehman Racing notched their first win of the season and the 38th of their career. They currently have a one-point lead in the Top Fuel points standings over second place driver Louie Allison, and will look to build on that lead with a win at the Spring Nationals.
Along with his quest for a fifth consecutive IHRA Top Fuel Championship, Millican has also raced in three NHRA national events this season, with his best finish coming at the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla., where he advanced to the semi-finals. He currently holds the number 10 position in the NHRA POWERade points standings.
