Millican Reaches Semi-Final Round at IHRA North American Nationals

Epping, N.H. - September 12, 2004 Clay Millican of Team Werner/Lehman Racing, the three-time IHRA Top Fuel Champion, advanced to the semi-final round of eliminations at the IHRA North American Nationals at the New England Dragway.

Millican was the number one qualifier with an elapsed time of 4.682 at 314.28 mph, and faced number eight qualifier Todd Paton in the first round of Sunday's eliminations. Both drivers made clean passes, and Millican came out with the win in an E.T. of 4.691 at 311.27 mph to Paton's 4.841 at 299.26 mph.

Millican and Litton have met in several final rounds in their careers, and Litton finished second to Millican in the IHRA Top Fuel points standings the past three years. Millican got off the line first with a reaction time of .056, but began smoking the tires around the 60 foot mark. Litton made it to the finish line first with an E.T. of 5.355 at 217 mph, while Millican finished in 7.271 at 113.58 mph.

"We won this race the past three years, so we came in with high hopes of making that four in a row this year," said Millican. "We just didn't get the job done today."

Millican is the current IHRA Top Fuel points leader, and has won six of the nine events that have taken place thus far in 2004. He has won 36 IHRA races in his career, and is the winningest professional driver in IHRA history. Along with his IHRA schedule, he is also racing a limited NHRA schedule.

The team's next race will be the IHRA President's Cup Nationals in Budds Creek, Md., on September 24- 26, where they will attempt to win their seventh IHRA race of the season.
