Chicago - Clay Millican of Team Werner/Lehman Racing, the 2001 and 2002 IHRA Top Fuel Champion, will return to competition after a two-week break at the inaugural 2003 IHRA Rocky Mountain Nationals in Edmonton, Alberta on June 27-29 at the Budweiser Motorsports Park.
"I am really looking forward to racing in Edmonton for the first time ever!" said Millican. "A lot of these fans probably haven't seen me race in person before, so I am hoping to give them a good show and hopefully continue our winning streak."
Millican, who is currently undefeated in IHRA competition in 2003, will look for his fourth straight IHRA win in Edmonton. Millican leads the IHRA Top Fuel points list with 388. His nearest competitor, Bruce Litton, is 173 points behind, with 215. Millican has won 23 IHRA Top Fuel finals in his career, putting him in second place on the career IHRA Top Fuel wins list. He needs just two more wins to tie legendary racer Don Garlits for first place.
In his last race, the IHRA ACDelco Nationals in Richmond, Va., Millican defeated NHRA regular John Smith in the finals. Millican clocked the fastest Top Fuel run of the event, with an elapsed time of 4.668 and a speed of 311.85 mph.
Prior to the race in Richmond, Millican won the Mopar Canadian Nationals in Grand Bend, Ontario for the third time in his career. He also won the event in 2000 and 2002. The team's first race of the season was the Amalie Texas Nationals in San Antonio, Texas, where Millican won and set a new IHRA Top Fuel record with an elapsed time of 4.591 seconds. Earlier this season, Millican also set new personal best records at the NHRA O'Reilly Spring Nationals in Houston, with an elapsed time of 4.505 and a speed of 330.23 mph.
