Vick Has One Race Left To Catch Jenkins, Drops Tough Quarter-final Match At Express Auto Parts.Com President's Cup Nats!

BUDDS CREEK, MD. -- In a battle of the two top ranked drivers in the Pro Modified division, Steve Vick lost a tough one to nemesis Shannon Jenkins. The veteran driver from Mocksville, NC., has just one opportunity left to catch Jenkins. That will take place in two weeks at Shreveport, La., home of the Mopar Parts World Finals.

Vick didn't get off on a good foot during the first session as he aborted the mission at mid-track and the by-passed the scales. He came into the second session as an unqualified entry and quickly re-established himself with a 6.41/219.54.

He didn't improve on Saturday, but he made a great run in the heat of the day. Vick hammered out an impressive 6.42/216.67 to maintain top status in the program. The clutch wizard hammered out his finest effort of qualifying with a 6.40/218.72 during the Saturday evening session and was the sixth quickest entry. Vick was scheduled to meet Carl Moyer in the first round.

Moyer never stood a chance as Vick bulbed him and led him for the duration of the match. In the heat of the day, the Camaro-driver cranked out a 6.424/218.97. That advance him to the quarter-finals where he matched up with Jenkins.

Jenkins was quicker off of the line and that was more than Vick could overcome. As the "Iceman" streaked to a 6.452, Vick got close to the center-line and aborted the mission.
