Hoover Posts Quickest Nitrous Entry Marks For Weekend; Scores Second Win At President's Cup
BUDDS CREEK, MD-- With only one more race on the IHRA season, Pro Modified driver Ed Hoover has been consistent in his efforts for more round wins. This weekend, Hoover had his sights set on the final round and a better position in the points going into the World Finals. Presenting as the quickest nitrous entry in the field, Hoover took business to heart and went all the way to the finals where he could not be held back. Hoover took a fantastic win against Shannon Jenkins in the final round of Pro Modified competition in the IHRA EXPRESS Auto Parts.Com President's Cup.
He opened qualifying as the quickest nitrous entry. He cranked out a 6.433/225.82 to slip into the second spot. The veteran driver was determined to maintain status and hammered out a 6.37/220.80 during the second session to remain the quickest bottle rocket at MIR.
The third qualifying session was not kind to Hoover as got out of the groove and slowed to a 9.01. He did not improve his Friday effort, but he made one of the finer effort of the program on Saturday evening with a 6.41/219.51. He ended qualifying as the fourth quickest entry and is scheduled to face Mitch Stott in the first round.
Stott was able to take the tree from Hoover, but the quickest nitrous entry of the weekend made up serious ground, taking the win light with a 6.458/199.85 run. The Trussell Corvette was a little loose on the top end, and Hoover lost lane choice in round two to Tommy Gray by only .001 of a second.
Meeting the "Undertaker" didn't scare Hoover. Gray took the shot off the line, but Hoover overcame the deficit with a 6.475/218.02 to defeat Gray's 6.507/212.56. Hoover was slated to meet the quickest Pro Mod of the weekend in the semis.
But the "Ironhorse" entry was jinxed against Hoover. Hesitating at the start, Hoover let driver Troy Critchley ease out in front, but when the door blew off the Merc, Hoover flew past him. In his best effort to play catch up, Critchley ran a 6.711/213.40 to no avail over Hoover's winning 6.531/216.10 run.
Hoover entered the final round of Pro Mod competition against Shannon Jenkins. The "Iceman" couldn't take an advantage over Hoover on the start. Hoover trucked right on through the quarter-mile with a final round win on a 6.434/217.84 run.
