Shelby, N.C. chassis-builder Tommy Mauney outran Scotty Cannon and Rickie Smith for top qualifying honors in the wild Pro Modified division. Mauney, driving a 1963 Corvette, covered the quarter-mile in 6.503 seconds, 212.29 mph. Mauney is the 1995 IHRA Pro Modified World Champion. Dobbs, of Welland, Ontario, also held on to his career-best 5.994, 233.20 to remain the fastest Alcohol Funny Car.
