INDIANAPOLIS (June 26, 1999) -- CARQUEST Top Fuel owner / driver Paul Romine has announced immediately the hiring of Bob Brandt to work along side Clayton Harris as co-crew chiefs on the CARQUEST Auto Parts Top Fuel Dragster.
"When the opportunity to get Bob Brandt became available, Clayton and myself felt it was the right move for the CARQUEST team," said Romine, a two-time IHRA Top Fuel Champion. "Without a doubt, the expertise of Clayton and Bob will advance the CARQUEST team to a new level this season and beyond."
Clayton Harris, the lone crew chief the past three years for the CARQUEST team commented.
"I believe this is a good move for the CARQUEST team," he said. "Co-crew chiefs have worked for many teams and we believe this is the best approach in putting the CARQUEST car back into the winner's circle."
Brandt, from Roseville, Calif., brings over 25 years of drag racing experience to the CARQUEST team. Brandt's background includes winning 4 NHRA World Championships in the 1970s with Don Prudhomme. Brandt has won 46 NHRA National Events as crew chief with Prudhomme, Jim Epler, Larry Minor, and Cruz Pedregon. Most recently, Brandt served as Team General Manager for the Exide Batteries Top Fuel car of Tony Schumacher.
"I am excited to be joining the CARQUEST team," Brandt said. "Paul and Clayton have enjoyed immense success the past three years and I am looking forward to joining them in their quest for the 1999 IHRA championship and furthering our performance in NHRA Winston Drag Racing."
Brandt will join the CARQUEST team immediately and plans call for the team to test at Indianapolis Raceway Park prior to their match race at IRP July 2nd with Bruce Litton.
