35th Annual All-Star Drag Racing Team finalists announced

LOS ANGELES, CA 7/19/01 While presenting the list of Finalists for CAR CRAFT Magazine's 35th anniversary All-Star Drag Racing Team program Publisher Jim Adolph couldn't hide his enthusiasm. "This project is a labor of love for our staff," he said. "It's been that way since back in '67, when the All-Star Team program became a reality. This year's Awards Banquet, which takes place on Thursday evening, August 29th at the Downtown Marriott Hotel in Indianapolis, will be a very special evening, and not just for the winners, but for everyone in attendance. I can hardly wait!"

Votes for this year's All-Star Team came from numerous sources, including CAR CRAFT Magazine's 400,000-plus readers, who did their voting online at carcraft.com, a special Selectors Panel made up of deserving racers, members of the aftermarket and media communities, and racing officials, as well as from readers of NHRA's "National Dragster" and IHRA's "Drag Review" newspapers. The response was a surprise to the Magazine's staff, as the number of online ballots easily exceeded the highest number ever received during 33 years of paper ballot, mail-in voting. This was the second year in which electronic voting took place.

Despite the large number of votes there were not only several ties, but there were a few categories in which just one or two votes separated the top four Finalists, so a fourth name was included.

In addition to 26 voter-determined awards the staff of CAR CRAFT Magazine will present a small number of Special Recognition Awards, and will also present the prestigious Person of the Year and Ollie Awards. The former will honor that individual who has had the greatest positive impact on the sport during the previous year, while the Ollie will recognize an individual's career-long contributions to the sport.
