‘El Matador’ has started more WRC races than any other driver. Personal triumph came in 1990 and 1992 when he took the title for Toyota as well as finishing four further seasons in the runners-up spot. After retiring from WRC the next challenge for Carlos was to start tackling cross-country rallies, the biggest of which remains the Dakar Rally. A successful stay with Volkswagen brought home victory at the 2009 Silk Way Rally before he finally got his hands on that elusive Dakar Rally win in 2010.
