Volkswagen Race Touareg 3 celebrates spectacular world debut
In a spectacular show the new Volkswagen Race Touareg 3 was unveiled to the public on Friday. The 310-hp cross-country rally prototype experienced its public debut in the impressive setting of the amphitheatre in Trier alongside ancient chariots and gladiators. 1,000 spectators witnessed the presentation of the successor of model version 2, the car that decided the legendary Dakar Rally in its favour in 2009 and 2010. Volkswagen is set on bringing the "Dakar" trophy to Wolfsburg for the third time in a row in January 2011 with the Race Touareg 3 and is the only manufacturer so far to have decided the automobile classification of the desert classic in its favour with diesel power. From September 11 to 18 the new Race Touareg 3 will make its competitive debut at the Silk Way Rally through Russia.

The 275-hp Cup car with production-based technology - such as a DSG gearbox operated by paddle shifters in the steering wheel - is powered by bio natural gas and thus emits 80 per cent less carbon dioxide.

On Sunday Motopark-Academy driver Antonio Felix da Costa (Portugal) "powered by Volkswagen" secured victory in front of Laurens Vanthoor (Signature, Belgium), who clinched the fourth podium position of the weekend for Volkswagen.
