Victories for Hammond Lai and Wang Jian Wei

Hammond Lai from Malaysia and the Chinese Wang Jian Wei are the two winners of the only foreign round of the Volkswagen Scirocco Cup China. In round one at the Formula 1 circuit at Sepang (Malaysia) Lai prevailed against the Italian Stefano Montesi, who had started from the pole position, and Kenny Lo from Hong Kong. In round two Wang Jian Wei won ahead of Kevin Tse (Hong Kong) and Zhang Da Sheng from China, who thus took the lead of the standings.

Volkswagen factory driver Carlos Sainz honoured by his home town

Dakar Rally winner Carlos Sainz was made an honorary citizen of the town he lives in, Pozuelo de Alarcon, last weekend. The 48-year-old native of Madrid who won his first Dakar Rally in January 2010 in the Race Touareg 2 and defended the title for Volkswagen received the medal of honour from Mayor Gonzalo Aguado. "With his exploits and his attitude about sporting competitions Carlos Sainz is a role model for the children and young people of Pozuelo de Alarcon," said the mayor during his speech at city hall. "He embodies determination, humility and generousness - values which go far beyond sport. Sainz is the first person to have been honoured this way in the history of the town that is located on the outskirts of Madrid.

Jetta TDI Cup USA
Gooden wins at Mid-Ohio

Local hero Wyatt Gooden clinched victory at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in round five of the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup USA. The 19-year-old rookie who lives just 90 minutes away from the race track prevailed against pole sitter Arie Ouimet in a captivating race with a lead of just 0.594 seconds. JD Mobley finished third.
