Dakar 2011 has finished today in Buenos Aires.
With the final podium ceremony the rally has come to an end. It was a tough Dakar, more than half of the competitors at the start on January 1st didn't make it to the finish. Specials were long and hard until the end, also because of unexpected conditions like heavy rainfall.
Success for the Honda CRF 450 Dakar X
Team Honda Europe can look back at a very successful rally. Top rider Quinn Cody finished 9th overall in his first Dakar, a great performance for the American. Mirjam Pol finished 2nd in the ladies classification, and Alexey Naumov and Vadim Pritulyak made it to the finish after some long days. 4 riders at the start, 4 riders at the finish, a 100% score. Also on Honda (supplied by Team Honda Europe) in the top 25 are the Prohens brothers, riding for Honda Chili. Just as in the previous editions in South America the Honda's have proven to be very reliable. Of the three Dakars organized in South America, the 2011 was the hardest. Question is now where Dakar is going in 2012, when it returns to South America for the 4th time.
After the podium the bikes go into the Parc Ferme. All the bikes and assistance vehicles will then go to Lima, for the embarkation back to Le Havre in France. Team Honda Europe is flying back home tuesday night. Get some sleep and get ready for Dakar 2012!
