UTA BAYER

The old guard of the Dakar know her well; she was mechanics to Andrea Mayer for six years and to Richard Sainct at BMW... In the Dakar bivouac and - more importantly - in the bikers' clan, Uta Bayer is a star! Here, everyone recalls with great sympathy this tiny little woman, who is never tired, who always smiles,... For the 2009 edition of the Dakar, Uta is in the caravan again but this time in a truck!

"I've been on rallies for 15 years, says Uta waiting in line at the physiotherapist. First, as a mechanics than as a truckd co-pilot. Mechanics is what I do for a living; I started with a friend who had built a rally bike. Then I worked at BMW and when the BWM Rally team asked me to join them, I did not think twice.

For three years, I've had my truck and in the race, we replenish the Dakar with Red Bull. Each one of us drives for two hours... we start at 1AM and while one is driving the other ones can catch some sleep... sitting in the bucket seat. Arrived at destination, between 10AM and noon - depending on the distance - we install the tent, the chairs, the tables and the fridges to hand in our Reb Bull. At night - around 11PM - we pack up before leaving again.

I must be a masochist or a bit crazy, I know the trades of a rally pretty well and everyone is like that: we almost never sleep and I love it! It allows me to travel, to discover new countries, to work with a team and to have exceptional moments!"
