Pierre Lartigue strengthened his stranglehold on the Rally by winning the very muddy 12th stage of the rally. Barring mechanical breakdown he will almost assuredly win the rally with only a couple of stages remaining. Ari Vatanen, who was leading the rally until a broken radiator put paid to his chances, was second on this stage 2 minutes and 20 seconds behind.
Bruno Saby retook second place overall after his teammate Frontenay lost an enormous amount of time with a broken radiator.
The motorcycles offered most of the excitement with Stephane Peterhansel winning this stage by roughly 19 minutes and as a consequence vaulted from 3rd to 1st. With only 2 days remaining, the finish of this section holds plenty of excitement.
