Sad news hit the KTM riders today when the announcement was made that fellow KTM rider, Jose Manuel Perez died from the internal injuries he sustained from his accident on the stage seven marathon.
The Spaniard crashed on January 6th, Perez was transfered to the Zouerat bivouac where surgeons did emergency abdominal surgery before airlifting him to Dakar, from there he was transported to the hospital in Alicante.
Perez was competing in his fourth Dakar cross-country rally at the age of 41 as an independent rider in the Bike category.
"After Richard Sainct's fatal accident we all know how it feels to loose someone," expressed Hans Trunkenpolz, the sadden KTM team manager when he learned the news. "It is a very painful experience. We offer sympathy to the relatives."
