A Long Way To Granada

Sun and fun in Barcelona. After todays ceremony presenting the competitors on the podium - situated at "Placa de Espanya" in Barcelona - the Dakar caravan faced a long liaison to Granada of about 920 km.

Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah and Jose Luis Monterde, the two X-raid BMW X5 drivers, enjoyed the atmosphere which was fantastic under again bright sunny sky. Thousands of fans gathered to cheer the Dakar caravan in the first hours of the New Year.

Tomorrow before leaving Spain the competitors will race a 10 km special, run on military ground near Granada. In Algeciras the caravan will embark and after the boat crossing, the first part of the route on African soil is waiting. A total of 9,039 kilometres (including 5,433 km of special and 3,606 km of liaison) are to be completed before the teams see the finish line in Dakar on January 16th, that is, if they come that far.
