"Bailey Celebrates Break Through Performance"

Preliminary results indicate that Bailey finished the special in the 59th position, another strong performance for the team. Traversing the special was slow and hard for all the teams. Bailey's average speed today was 47 kilometers per hour compare to 91 km/hr yesterday. Camel grass combine with powder-like sands were a taxing combination. "It was difficult to maintain the speed you needed to traverse the sands because if you hit the camel grass patches too fast you risked losing control of the car. If you slowed down you risked getting stuck in the sand," stated Bailey.

Stage 7 had special significance for Bailey. In 2005 Bailey was eliminated in this stage due to navigation problems. "Last year I got lost, but today I broke my personal record. I feel fantastic despite coming off a 10 hour 30 minute special. From this point forward every moment at Dakar is a new record for me," continued Bailey.

Results are not final for the day. Philippe Gache's preliminary position is 49th for this Stage. We are sorry to report that Kevin Health withdrew from the race today. The T4 truck is still traversing the special at the time of this publication.

Stage 8's course, Atar to Nouakchott, features another long special at 508 kilometers.
