CAN-AM POWERS AHEAD AS FIVE QUADS TACKLE THE LAST WEEK OF THE DAKAR.

The 2007 Dakar Rally is now taking its toll on the quad competitors and from the original 13 thirteen starter, five have finished Stage Nine on Monday,15 January in Nema in Mauritania.

The 497 kilometres stage was won by the Czeck, Josef Machacek (Yamaha) followed by Spaniard Carlos Avendano (Suzuki 450LTR). Antoine Morel, who is participating in his 16th Dakar-event, and his 20-year old son, Alan (Can- Am Bombardier MD Rallye Sport) finished the stage togeter with dad Antoine receiving the chequered flag just over a minute before his son.

Their team-mate, Jose Maria Pena, finished fifth for the day. Both Morels and Pena endured over ten hours in the saddle for the day.

With five days and 1 891 kilometres of the 2007 Dakar Rally still to go - there will be no racing on Wednesday - Machacek is currently the quad leader followed by Avendano. Alan Morel is third followed by Pena and dad Antoine Morel.
