DAKAR RALLY 2008 CANCELED
After different exchanges with the French government - in particular the Ministry for Foreign Affairs - , and based on their firm recommendations, the organisers of the Dakar have taken the decision to cancel the 2008 edition of the rally, scheduled from the 5th to the 20th of January between Lisbon and Senegal's capital.
Fred van Putten, Team manager MAN Dakar Team: "Like everybody else here, we're extremely disappointed. We cannot do anything else now than just respect the decision of the organisation. These kind of threats are not to be underestimated, despite of the huge deception ofcourse. We're very certain to remain being active in rallysport. It's terrible that the most important Rally, Dakar is cancelled. But better be safe than sorry."
