Dakar 2014: Stage 3 recap

Another day and another stage down for the 2014 edition of the Dakar Rally in Argentina, Chile and Bolivia.
Joan Barreda Bort, riding his Honda CRF 450 paced the field today, maintaining a large 13 minute gap to second and third places Cyril Despres and Marc Coma in the bike class.
The bikes and quads ran a shorter stage, as a decision was made to start those classes at the 130 km mark.
Those two drivers hold first and second overall, with a six minute and ten second margin between them.
In the truck category, Russian Andrey Karginov found pace in the high altitude stage, beating yesterday’s winner Gerard De Rooy by 2 minutes and 42 seconds.
With the second place finish, the Netherland’s De Rooy holds the overall lead in the category, over countryman Marcel Van Vliet, with a gap of 18 minutes and 49 seconds.
American Robby Gordon was able to muster a top ten finish today, seven minutes behind the leader, Nani Roma driving a Mini.
The overall standings in the car category have Roma’s Mini on top by over 7 minutes over local Orlando Terranova.
Tomorrow stage will bring the drivers and riders from San Juan, Argentina to Chilecito, with all classes covering over 300 km of special stage each.
