17:10 'Shino' loses the lead @Cars - Shinozuka (No. 210) was the victim of a flat tyre at the 420 kms point (47 kms from the end of the stage). Masuoka, the outright leader of the rally, now finds himself at the front in the special stage.

Bikes - Four riders have crossed the finish line of the special stage. De Gavardo (No. 3) in 6h 33m 17s; Roma (No 9 - 1m 55s behind); Meoni (No. 1 - 3m 50s behind); Cox (No. 5 - 6m 03s behind).

Cars - 74th from the start this morning, Stephane Peterhansel (Nissan No. 208) has passed PC1 in 2h 30m 33s, which puts him in 33rd place through the section. Johnny Hallyday and Rene Metge (Nissan No. 245), for their part, are stopped at the 69 kms point with transmission problems. They are repairing.

Bikes - Kari Tiainen (No. 8) has arrived at PC3. He is stuck with engine oil problems.

Cars - At PC1, the leaders are cruising. The four Mitsubishis are running close together (35 seconds between first and fourth), behind, there is a drop: Gregoire de Mevius (Nissan No. 208), fifth at the moment, is 14m 03s behind Shinozuka.

Cars/Bikes - For the moment, on the stage between Atar and Tidjikja, all the categories are confused. At PC1, a bike was fastest overall: Kari Tiainen (No. 8) has passed in 1h 32m 33s, 1m 26s faster than the best car of Shinozuka (No. 210). All the other bikes were slower than 'Shino'.
