Spaniard Joan Barreda took his fourth stage win in 2014 ahead of Hélder Rodrigues and Cyril Despres.
Barreda took a big chunk out of his deficit to overall leader Marc Coma today.
"Today was the third day in a row when I pretty much opened the track for most of the stage."
Fifty-year-old Eric Palante was taking part in his 11th Dakar and hoped to win the amateur trophy for motorbikes.
Stage 4 of the 2014 Dakar saw Juan Pedrero take his maiden win at the end of a special which dealt Cyril Despres’ prospects a severe blow.
"I was riding very smooth and easy today," Joan Barreda said after holding onto the overall lead on day 4.

Today's stage, part one of the first marathon stage with no team service, was characterised by the highest ever racing altitude in Dakar history.
