Greater Saturday -- Lacombe 2nd and Picotte 6th on both grids
Calgary, July 1, 2006. Final qualifying for the Superbike and Pro 600 Sportbike classes took place today in Race City Mnotorsport Park in Calgary, site of the 3rd round of the 2006 Parts Canada Superbike Championship.
After a seesaw battle that saw Kevin Lacombe on pole until the last few laps of the Superbike qualifying session, he will start next to poleman Jordan Szoke who qualified 0.003 sec. quicker that him, after Kevin had improved his time from yesterday by more than 0.8 seconds.
Pascal Picotte also went quicker than yesterday, by 0.7 sec., which allowed him to keep his 6th place on the Superbike grid.
Kevin is getting ever closer to the leaders. "Improving my time by 0.8 sec. is very satisfying for the team and myself. Obviously we made the correct changes to the bike overnight, but I also found a little time within myself. I set my fast time on race set-up, so I know what we will do very well over the race distance."
Pascal Picotte qualified 6th in Superbike, also on a race set-up. "Seeing Kevin on pole in Superbike confirms to me that we have the bikes and the team to win. We also improved my machine overnight, and I did go 0.7 sec faster than yesterday. Unfortunately for me, everyone else also improved, so I am still 6th , which means a second row start.
For Pascalm the key in both races remains minimising the after effects of a crash in pre season testing. "I cannot afford to risk falling again, so my strategy will be to get a really good start and then focus on drive off the corners to maximize top speed and make it difficult for the others to pass me on the straightaways."
Pro 600 Sportbike qualifying results were once again symetrical with Superbike results. Kevin qualified 2nd , less than 0,3 sec off the pole position time, after cutting more than 1 sec of his time of yesterday, while Pascal ended up 6th again, after cutting a whopping 1.7 sec off his Friday time.
