Lacombe 2nd in 600, 3rd in Superbike - Picotte 3rd and 2nd
Mosport, July 16, 2006. Day 2 of the double header at Mosport track saw our riders all over the podium, but not (yet) on the top step. More development and training coming up to dominate in the last two rounds.
The Pro 600 race produced mixed feelings for both riders, as the bike settings were much more efficient than yesterday. Kevin Lacombe missed the win by fractions of a second, while a small mistake by Pascal on the 11th of 14 laps left him ten meters from the win at the end. The really good news is that both riders turned their fastest laps of the race on lap 13, which means that the set up for both machines made optimal use of the tires. Pascal Picotte took a team principal's view of the results. "Strong podium finishes mean that we are headed in the right direction. Kevin (Lacombe) is still very much in the Pro 600 championship hunt, and we have to raise our game yet again for the last two rounds of the season."
Kevin was also happy with the Pro 600 result, but still wants more. " Our bikes were much better than yesterday, especially at the end of the race. I did not get fooled by Szoke's speed at the end, but the fact remains that he still had too much for me. The next race is at Schubenacadie (NS) where I always run well, and I plan on sweeping both races at that tight and very physical track."
Superbike was a repetition of yesterday's result, with both machines running very strongly throughout the incredibly tight race. Pascal was once again left with mixed feelings at the end. "Second place, half a second behind the winner, may look good from the outside, but (Winner) Jordan (Szoke) turned his fastest laps on the last two laps of the race, as if he had something in reserve. I was a little tired at the end, but I will be fitter yet for the last two rounds."
Kevin had similar mixed feelings at the end. "Turning my fastest lap on lap 14 meant that the set up was on the dot. See you on the top step of the podium at Schubenacadie."
The next round of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship will take place at Schubenacadie (NS) on August 11 to 13.
