Welcome to the 2000 Pick 6 competition!

As you are by now no doubt aware, we have been experiencing some problems getting the Pick 6 competition running smoothly at the new site. With any luck we are over the worst of those problems, but I thought I would take this opportunity to pass on a couple of thoughts.

First: Please make sure you enter your email address correctly! If you don't supply a valid email address, you can't complete the registration process. I've already seen more than twenty messages about failed message delivery. And that's with only a couple of hundred registration attempts.

Which brings us to - email. By far the most frequent question about the administrator change is "why no more email notification of deadlines and results"? I hope that we will, eventually, be able to send out reminders of deadlines for forthcoming competitions. But you shouldn't rely on this - if you miss the deadline because we didn't send a reminder (or if it got lost somewhere on the way) then you won't get to make a pick for that race. And as we've already run into some problems with the new site for the competition, I don't want to add the additional load of email message generation until everything else is running smoothly.

Top of my list, at present, is getting the Pick query form up and running, so you can confirm your pick has been entered.

That, and fixing a couple of reported bugs, are top priority.

We've also had requests for a way to administer your registration (change email address, password, etc.) That's a good idea.

Thank you for your forbearance in putting up with these teething problems, and welcome to the 2000 Pick 6 competition!

Let's hope that by the end of the year we'll all have forgotten these days.
