"Race Fans For A Cure®" raises $4,000 at Kentucky Speedway; fan donations for year surpass 2001 total
DEARBORN, Mich., July 19, 2002 -- The fight against breast cancer continues to benefit from the repeated generosity of race fans.
Race Fans for a Cure® raised $4,002.62 at Kentucky Speedway last weekend to push its season total to $52,249.25 -- surpassing the total of $51,458.93 donated by fans during all of 2001. All proceeds go directly to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Race Fans for a Cure® -- a joint initiative involving Ford Credit, the Komen Foundation and Dale and Kelley Jarrett -- has raised $188,167.11, often a dollar at a time, for the fight against breast cancer since 2000.
"I continue to be amazed at the generosity of NASCAR fans," said Phil Gordon, Ford Credit Motorsport Marketing Manager. "This program is designed to give the fans a way to support the research efforts against this dreaded disease, and that's what they continue to do. We can't thank them enough."
Ford Credit, associate sponsor of the No. 88 NASCAR Winston Cup Taurus driven by Dale Jarrett, sponsors a Race Fans for a Cure® display booth at various NASCAR events and Ford Racing Fan Appreciation Days during the season. Race Fans for a Cure® is an initiative designed to increase awareness of breast cancer and the importance of early detection. The display booth offers information about the Komen Foundation and its mission to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment, and is equipped to accept donations from fans.
The next Race Fans for a Cure® display booth will be at the Ford Racing Fan Appreciation Day at Indianapolis Raceway Park on Thursday, August 1.
