Two Ford Credit Initiatives Have Combined to Raise Nearly $1 Million for Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Since 1998
(DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 12, 2003) - Race Fans for a Cure®, which in less than four years has distributed tens of thousands of breast self-exam cards while raising over $350,000 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, will visit Dover International Speedway next weekend.
Race Fans for a Cure®, a charitable initiative started by Ford Credit in 2000 to benefit the Komen Foundation, will be at the race track from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, and Sunday, Sept. 21.
The displays will offer information about the Komen Foundation and its mission to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research education, screening and treatment, and is equipped to accept donations from fans. All proceeds go directly to the Komen Foundation to support the fight against breast cancer through funding of innovative research and community-based outreach programs.
Ford Credit, associate sponsor of the No. 88 NASCAR Winston Cup Taurus driven by 1999 champion Dale Jarrett, created Race Fans for a Cure® in 2000. In less than four years, the program has reached countless people and raised $353,625.94, often a dollar at a time, for the Komen Foundation.
Furthermore, since 1998, Ford Credit has donated money to the Komen Foundation for every top-three finish and pole position (as fastest qualifier) that Dale Jarrett collects during the season. Since that program's inception, Ford Credit has donated $642,500 to the Foundation based on Jarrett's on-track performance and end-of-season bonuses. Ford Credit gives the Komen Foundation $10,000 for each of Jarrett's victories, $7,500 for each second-place finish, $5,000 for each third-place finish and $5,000 for each pole won.
Combined, the two programs have generated $996,125.94 in donations to the Komen Foundation.
