Helio Castroneves to Walk the Runway as Show Honorary Chairperson

INDIANAPOLIS, IN February 14, 2006 CARA's annual Indy 500 Fashion Show will be celebrating its 26th anniversary May 24th with two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves as its honorary chairperson. "CARA occupies a very special place in the motorsports community," noted Helio Castroneves. "For more than 25 years, they have given so much to racing and non-racing causes. It is a distinction to be named honorary chairperson of such a classic event."

One of the traditional kick-off events for the Indianapolis 500 weeekend, CARA's fashion show was the inaugural event for the charity in 1981. To be held this year at the downtownIndianapolis Westin, the show will feature fashions from Saks Fifth Avenue. The annual event is a major social affair in the month of May and a cornerstone of CARA Charities activities throughout the year. A parade of drivers and celebrities share in the fun that attracts over a thousand people each year.

"You would be hard pressed to find a more buoyant personality in racing than Helio," said Vicki Faivre, president of CARA. "Some drivers, as they become successful, distance themselves from the fans. Not Helio. He embodies the theme of this year's show Speed and Spirit. One of only a handful of drivers with back to back Indy 500 wins, he is consistently competitive and has an irrepressible spirit that people love. He has been an active participant in the show for many years and has infused the show with his energy every year. He will make this year's show that much more special."

The highly popular show starts with a 10:30 a.m. social hour followed by the fashion show at 11:30 and lunch at 12:30 p.m. and will include families, celebrities and many of the Indy 500 drivers, past and present, including Lynne St. James and Janet Guthrie. Tickets will be available through the CARA Charities office at 317- 299-2277.

Last year's show raised over $70,000 for local and national charities. With the support of sponsors, teams, drivers, members and race fans, CARA has donated more than $4 million dollars since their founding a quarter of a century ago to dozens of philanthropic causes helping children, hospitals, scholarships funds, ministries and numerous charity foundations.
