CARA Charities' Cars and Stars: At Speed with the Best
INDIANAPOLIS, IN August 18, 2007 Unless you are Mrs. Bobby Rahal or Mrs Johnny Rutherford, you probably have not driven with their famous husbands Now is your chance to drive with them, at speed, on a race course.
Indy 500 winners Bobby Rahal and Johnny Rutherford will be giving track rides at CARA Charities' Cars and Stars at High Speed at the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet IL on Friday, September 7. The CARA fundraiser will also include a concours car show, dinner and a silent auction of special racing memorabilia.
"We hosted the inaugural event last year and people are still talking about it," said Mark Basso, President and founder of the Autobahn Country Club. "This is for a great cause and timely with that weekend's IRL race just two miles down the road at Chicagoland Speedway. For a couple extra bucks, you get a once in a life time ride with true racing legends."
In addition to giving rides, the drivers will be signing autographs, judging the concours and mingling with the guests at the premier auto country club in the US. Last year more than $21,000 was raised and this year the proceeds will be going to the WillPOWER Endowment at UCP of Will County, Father Phil De Rea, CARA's Buckle Up Baby, and MorningStar Mission Ministries.
CARA Charities is coming off another successful event at Road America last weekend. The friday night Tailgate Party raised $25,000 for the Elkhart Lake First Responders, the Elkhart Lake Volunteer Fire Department, the Salvation Army Grid Kids and ongoing CARA programs. "These events have many `parents' that make them possible," said Vicki Faivre, president of CARA Charities. "Aussie Winery and Johnsonville Brats were very generous with their contributions of time and great food and drink. The teams, series, and drivers always dig deep into their closets and come up with great auction items. For example, we had a helmet that was signed by the Atlantic drivers and half of the proceeds went to the Hole in the Wall Gang. It has been a busy month for all of our volunteers, but well worth it."
Tickets for the September 7 Cars & Stars at High Speed can be ordered on line at caracharities.org, or from the CARA office at (317) 299-2277. Tickets are $75.00 for adults and $20.00 for children under 12. For more information on the Autobahn Country Club, please go to autobahncountryclub.net
